Trick or Trees is an annual Halloween event hosted by Zionsville Parks and Recreation. It takes place at Elm Street Green, a park at the northern end of the historic Village district. Children come in costume and follow the Trick-or-Treat Trail through the park, collecting treats from local businesses and community organizations along the way. The morning also includes marshmallow roasting, fall activities, science experiments, games, the Pumpkin Path, and a scarecrow contest.

The 2026 event is Saturday, October 24, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with timed entry to manage the flow of families through the trail and activity areas.

  • Trick or Trees is for children ages 2 to 12, and every participating child must be registered. Children under 2 attend free but still need to be registered.

Event activities

The activities are spread throughout Elm Street Green, combining the wooded trail with activity areas elsewhere in the park.

  • Trick-or-Treat Trail: Children follow the trail through the park and collect treats from participating local businesses and community organizations.
  • Pumpkin Path: A seasonal pumpkin display along the park trail.
  • Scarecrow decorating contest: Local businesses and organizations create scarecrows displayed along the back of the park leading toward the Pumpkin Path. Children attending the event can vote for their favorite.
  • Fire pit and marshmallow roasting: Families can gather around the fire and roast marshmallows during the event.
  • Fall activities and games: Hands-on seasonal activities and games set up around the park.
  • Science experiments: Interactive science activities among the children’s activity stations.

Timed entry and registration

Families register each participating child for a specific arrival time. The timed-entry system spaces arrivals through the morning while leaving time to walk the Trick-or-Treat Trail and visit the other activities before noon.

Children under 2 attend free, but they still need to be included in the registration. Advance admission is $5 per child for Zionsville residents and $7 for nonresidents.

Online registration is open October 1 at 8:00 AM through October 23 at 4:00 PM. A limited number of day-of admissions may be available for $7 per child, with cashless payment only. Keep the registration confirmation email for the reserved entry time.
