Smashin’ Pumpkins: A Pumpkin Smash & Composting Bash is a post-Halloween event from Zionsville Parks and Recreation where families can bring pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns to Mulberry Fields Park to smash and compost them. The event also includes family activities, games, food trucks, and composting demonstrations.
The 2026 event takes place Saturday, November 7, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Quick Facts
- Bring pumpkins or jack-o’-lanterns to smash and compost.
- Moldy pumpkins are welcome.
- Remove paint, glitter, glue, stickers, ribbons, and other non-compostable decorations before bringing your pumpkin.
- Limited extra pumpkins are available for a minimum $2 cash donation. Donations support Zionsville Parks recreation programming.
- The Epic Pumpkin Drop is one of the main attractions. Zionsville firefighters raise pumpkins on the ladder truck and drop them from above for a dramatic smash.

What Pumpkins Can You Bring?
Bring pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns that can be composted. Before arriving, remove craft paint, glitter, glue, stickers, ribbons, and other decorations that cannot be composted.
If a pumpkin has craft paint or wax on it, scrape or cut away that portion of the skin before smashing.
