Downtown Zionsville DORA Guide
© ZionsvilleIndiana.com
Zionsville’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area — better known as the DORA — lets adults 21 and older enjoy an alcoholic beverage from an approved downtown business while walking through designated parts of the Village.
The district covers much of downtown Zionsville, including the brick-paved Main Street area, nearby commercial blocks, and Creekside Corporate Park. Because the DORA runs year-round, it is part of regular downtown life — not something limited to festivals, market days, or special events.
Before you order, it helps to know where the district begins and ends, what kind of container your drink has to be in, and which businesses are approved to participate. This guide covers the official DORA hours, container rules, beverage size limits, boundaries, and participating establishments. For the most current rules, business list, and boundary map, check the Town of Zionsville's official DORA page.
DORA Hours and Age Requirement
The Zionsville DORA is active every day of the year.
| Day | Hours |
|---|---|
| Monday – Saturday | 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM |
| Sunday | 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM |
You must be 21 or older to purchase and carry an alcoholic beverage within the district. One person may carry up to two open containers at a time.
Official Zionsville DORA Rules & Regulations
The DORA gives visitors more freedom to walk through downtown with a drink, but it does not make the Village a BYOB district. Alcoholic beverages must come from an approved participating business, stay in the proper container, and remain inside the DORA boundaries.
Your drink has to come from an approved business.
DORA beverages must be purchased from a licensed, approved establishment inside the district. You cannot bring alcohol from home, carry in a drink purchased outside the DORA, or pour outside alcohol into a DORA cup.

Your drink has to be in an approved container.
Alcoholic beverages must be served in an official DORA-branded container. The town’s original DORA cups were clear plastic cups with the Zionsville DORA logo, but approved businesses may also use other non-glass, non-breakable containers if they carry the official DORA branding. Glass containers may not be carried into the DORA.
Not every shop allows DORA drinks inside.
A DORA beverage can be carried through public areas of the district, but individual businesses decide whether open containers are allowed inside their storefronts. Look for the official window decals before walking in with a drink. Some signs show that DORA beverages are welcome, while others show that they are not permitted.
Open containers must stay inside the district.
The DORA boundary is marked with official signs and sidewalk decals. Once you reach the edge of the district, the open-container allowance ends. Do not carry an open alcoholic beverage beyond the posted DORA boundary.
Approved Beverage Sizes
The ordinance sets maximum container sizes for alcoholic beverages carried into the public areas of the DORA. Individual establishments may serve smaller pours.
| Beverage Type | Maximum Size |
|---|---|
| Beer or flavored malt beverages | 16 oz |
| Wine, cider, or premixed cocktails | 12 oz |
| Liquor or liquor-based cocktails | 10 oz total, with no more than 2 oz of liquor |
